05.22.15 Andrew John Milne and the Museum of New Ideas: In an Instant

Third Space Gallery is excited to be hosting Andrew John Milne and the Museum of New Ideas this Friday, May 22nd for one night only:

Museum of New Ideas

The Museum of New Ideas is a new-media art gallery, studio and technology museum located inside a tiny delivery-van. The Museum provides a small space for exhibition, residency, performance, and community outreach. Measuring 5ft deep by 6ft wide by 6ft high it is accessible via a grand but small staircase. As an institution it playfully drifts within the architecturally rooted urban landscape, seeking to explore possibilities of proposition, interaction and discussion within public space.

In An Instant – Museum of New Ideas 2015 Exhibition

What happens when you mix a photocopier, a fresnel lens, mirrors and cutting edge 19th century pre-cinematic know how? ‘In An Instant’ is a street side exhibit that allows viewers view and create short films on sheets of paper … instantly. Playfully engaging current media technologies without miniaturization, ‘In An Instant’ allows viewers and participants to make instant photographs on paper with a photocopier and immediately spin them into motion via an on-hand wooden kinetoscope.

Andrew John Milne is a self-taught Winnipeg based Interdisciplinary Artist that interweaves New Media, Film, Photography and Performance. He has a background in mechanical, electrical and software design, contemporary dance, photography and film. In this work Milne approaches cutting edge media with obsolesced technologies and materials. These anachronistic yet functional devices that draw ‘mechanism’ into a post-cinematic dream space that anticipates both future and obsolescence.

Andrew is the founder of the Museum of New Ideas, a mobile new media exhibition and studio space, and is a founding member of Bent Light, a post-cinema film collective.
